Small Beginnings
Let me give you a five-year testimony summary in 450 words or less that all started with a simple yes.
In 2019, my best friend invited me and a few others to stay at her parents' new property in a small town about an hour away. I used to frequent this town a lot as a teenager on little “day” trips with my sister, so I was on board to go back and have a little girls' weekend. Of course, I said yes!
The property was beautiful. We did so much exploring, and I just felt God there—I never wanted to leave. The morning we were packing to leave, my friend’s grandfather (lovingly called Bampa) sat across from me at the counter. We had never met, but he started talking to me like an old friend and began speaking into my life. He asked if I had ever written before, which I had in high school, but not positive or happy things. He said, “You are supposed to write. You should journal.”
At that time, I was in a bad spot with the Lord. I was holding in some deep anger and just overall didn’t really want to speak to Him. Three months later, I found myself back at the property for a women’s retreat. I went off by myself and finally decided to do it. I wrote six pages of anger and desperation and just gave it all to Him. There wasn’t any miraculous, eye-opening moment or revelation—I had simply been obedient to the call to write.
After this experience, I didn’t see or speak to Bampa for a year, but I kept writing. When we met again, I gave him the full update and shared how my walk with the Lord had changed—I was free from depression, I quit my second job, and I was journaling regularly. That’s when the domino effect kicked in.
2020: Just two days later, I was offered a part-time social media job (a dream at that time) that turned full-time three months later.
2021: I started counseling, helped launch a coffee shop, learned about the biblical feasts, helped throw a women’s retreat, and painted for the first time in a creative way.
2022: I helped launch a mobile coffee truck, played a small part in building a women’s & children’s home, closed a business, joined the board of directors for a nonprofit ministry, and moved an hour away from everyone to work and live on-site at a hotel/wedding venue.
2023: Attended a prophetic service where I was told I was supposed to write and be an author. I helped launch the women’s & children’s home, received heavenly downloads from the Lord for my first two books, started writing, began having prophetic dreams, and spoke for the first time in front of a crowd.
2024: Moved all the way back to the big city, started a new job I probably had no business doing (but God's favor opens doors that man shuts!), and got to travel so much.
Now it’s 2025. My first book is published, I am launching my own business, I received a promotion, and I am sharing what the Lord has done in my life—something 2021 Kelsey never would have seen coming. All because I said yes to that sleepover. God had so much in store for me in that yes.
The cherry on top? The Lord reminded me of a time when I was about 16 or 17, at a service at my childhood church. My old children’s pastor came up to me and said, “The Lord gave me a word for you. He says you’re going to lay something down, and you’re not supposed to—you’re supposed to keep doing it.”
I didn’t know what to make of it at the time, but now I realize it was writing. I wrote so much back then—sad, depressing letters and stories of how I was feeling, not realizing that even then, I was processing my emotions without understanding. But at some point, I stopped. And all those years ago, the Lord had already spoken His purpose over me—telling me to keep going and not to put it down.
I leave you with this:
Never underestimate the power of a small yes. God doesn’t need a grand gesture, just your obedience. That little step—the moment of faith—might be the beginning of the rest of your life.
Lord, thank You for using small beginnings to do big things. Help me to trust You in the little steps, even when I don’t see the full picture. Give me the courage to say yes and the faith to believe that You are leading me into something greater. Amen.

Looking back, I realize how one small “yes” led to a domino effect I never could have imagined. I wasn’t striving for a life-changing moment. I wasn’t even looking for a breakthrough. I just said yes to a simple invitation—a weekend trip with friends. And from that small beginning, God unraveled a story far bigger than I could have written myself.
Maybe you’re standing at the edge of something right now, wondering if a small step is even worth taking. Maybe it feels insignificant, like journaling your thoughts, reaching out to someone, signing up for something new, or simply making space for God to speak. But I can promise you—small beginnings are never wasted when they’re in God’s hands.
So here’s my challenge for you: Take the first step.
Ask God what He’s calling you to do.
What’s been stirring in your heart lately?
Have you been feeling a nudge toward something—big or small?
Take a moment to pray and listen.
Start with what you have.
Don’t wait for perfect conditions.
If it’s writing, grab a notebook and start. If it’s a conversation, send a text. If it’s serving, find a way to show up.
Be consistent, even when it feels small.
Growth happens in daily obedience, not just big leaps.
Keep showing up, even when you don’t see immediate results.
Surrender the outcome to God.
You don’t have to figure it all out.
Trust that He is guiding you and that your “yes” has a purpose.
I truly believe that years from now, you’ll look back at a simple step you took today and realize it was the start of something bigger than you imagined. Don’t overlook small beginnings—embrace them.
What is one small step you feel God asking you to take? Let me know in the comments or write it down in a journal. I’d love to hear how He is moving in your life!
